To the Residents of Nassau County:

Last week I took our daughter Caroline to visit a college out of state. She loved it and is almost certain to attend if she is accepted. I was thrilled for her. But like a lot of parents and grandparents, I also was sad: I realized that once she leaves Long Island, there is a strong possibility she won’t be back here to live, to work, and to raise her own family. For a lot of people her age, this suburb of opportunity for my parents', my grandparents', and my generation now has little to offer them.
